Our Vision:
We at Trinity UMC seek, with God's help, to become a vital and joy-filled center of year-round ministry in Oak Bluffs. We will provide nourishment to the spiritually hungry, welcome all in Christ's name, and remain open to growth and change, guided by the Holy Spirit.

Our Mission:
Trinity United Methodist Church is a church family whose members seek to be living examples of the love of Jesus Christ in an atmosphere of acceptance and mutual support. Through ministries of nurture, Christian education, worship, outreach, and witness, we seek to know Christ and make him known. As United Methodists, we strive to have open hearts, open minds, and open doors to all.

Church History:
Trinity United Methodist Church, located next to the Tabernacle in the center of the historic Campmeeting area of Oak Bluffs, has been a source of inspiration to tens of thousands of members, friends and visitors over the years. The church and parsonage across Sunset Lake, were built in 1879, a year before the Tabernacle was erected. The church was built in order to provide a year-round Methodist presence on the island. The cost was $10,000.

Eight years later, in 1886, a chapel was built across the street from the church, and in 1966 the chapel underwent major renovations to become the Parish House, a place for church and community activities, including an active Sunday school. The Parish House has recently been refurbished, with interior painting and floor refinishing, in 2004, and a renovated Sunday School room completed in 2003.

In June of 1999, during the pastorate of Rev. Daniel Freitas, a three-year capital campaign was undertaken to restore the church to its original Victorian appearence. A dedicated group of members and friends of the church, under the leadership of George Fisher and Rev. Doug Dorchester, helped to raise more than $400,000 for major reparis and renovation to this historic building. The church once again stands as a fine example of Victorian architecture in the midst of the Campground. Its chimes ring out at noon and 6:00 PM every day, playing familiar hymns to remind Campground residence and visitors alike of the presence of God in their midst.

Trinity United Methodist Church is a year round congregation which supports a growing Sunday School, as well as United Methodist Women. Our choir is open to all who love to sing (rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 5-6 PM). We provide space for Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and other community groups, and are involved in ecumenical and interfaith activities, as well as with other Methodist congregations on the island through the United Methodist Society of Martha's Vineyard.
